Pigging

pigging in the context of pipelines refers to the practice of using pipeline inspection gauges or ‘pigs’ to perform various operations on a pipeline. These operations include but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning out deposits & debris
  • Batch / Separation of products
  • Internal inspection / pipe geometry measurements
  • Location of obstructions / anomaly in the pipeline
  • Improving flow efficiency
  • Gel Pigs, which are used in conjunction with conventional pigs or standalone to optimize pipeline dewatering, cleaning, and drying tasks.

This is accomplished by inserting the pig into a pig launcher, the pig is then propelled to the pig receiver at the other end of the pipeline with product or other mediums such as water, air, Nitrogen etc.

Pig launching and receiving systems vary from one to another depending on specific purpose and product.

Pre commissioning of Pipelines generally consist of following sequence of activities where pigging is typically required.

Operational Pipelines may require pigging for several reasons however pigging is generally carried out to achieve the flowing purposes.

SYGMA engineers understand the critical aspects and how crucial is it to evaluate, plan & engineer for a successful pigging operation. The engineered services offered by SYGMA are backed up by extensive experience, hands-on know how, cost-effective approach, innovative & high-quality products from qualified suppliers – all these ingredients contribute to developing right technical solutions and executing them successfully to maximize life and efficiency of pipelines.
